Orbserver

ORBSERVER is a TTRPG for two to four players and a Game Master, in which the players take on the role of Orbservers - strange, alien scouts sent forth from the void to study reality as we know it. 

The Orbservers share a universal minimalist design as formulated by the void itself. Each is a sort of porous carbon fiber sphere in appearance. The “pores” act simultaneously as audio-visual receptors and projectors, as well as providing a means of deploying a filament cable “tentacle” from any point on its body, which it can use to navigate, interact, and even defend itself if necessary. In simpler terms, they are metallic-looking balls that can see, hear, project images and sound, and deploy appendages as necessary. The design of these models can vary slightly, but they generally have a diameter of three feet and tend to be dark in coloration. The weight, as well as the contents and mechanism of the Orbserver, is a little more complicated. 

Orbservers may find themselves deployed to any place, time or reality. In every case, the objective is the same - to observe, to learn, to retrieve knowledge of reality for the void. Ideally, the Orbservers accomplish this objective without drawing too much attention to themselves. The more aware of the Orbservers the denizens of reality are, the more vulnerable they become, and the more they risk exposing the secrets of the void that spawned them. For similar reasons, it is preferred that no Orbserver remain deployed for too long at a time, though the lure of reality’s mysteries sometimes proves irresistible to the void’s agents. In cases where an Orbserver is unable or unwilling to return to the void, new Orbservers must be sent on a retrieval mission in order to protect the abyss from unwanted exposure.
